"The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg" is a piece of short fiction by Mark Twain. It first appeared in Harper's Monthly in December 1899, and was subsequently published by Harper Collins in the collection The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg and Other Stories and Sketches (1900).

Harry and Gerry are friends and also rivals. The object of their affection is one Viola Carwell. Viola巗 father is cool towards Harry, since his family got the best of him in a business deal. The story takes a sinister turn when Viola巗 father dies on the golf course and the cause was poison. Was it suicide due to financial reverses? Or was it murder? The detective Colonel Ashley is called in to assist with the investigation.
